Thomas Johnston married Mary-Ann Campbell at Germantown (now Grovedale), Victoria, in 1867. Mary Ann and her family had migrated from Scotland to Victoria on the HILJA in 1854 and settled near Inverleigh, Victoria. After the marriage, Mary Ann and Thomas lived at Springvale (now Pittong, near Linton), where they raised their subsequent family of 5 sons and 4 daughters.
